"Are
you still in love with him?"
Jeremy
looks up from his carton of pad Thai and raises an eyebrow at David. "Does
it matter?"
David
smiles. "Of course it matters."
"It
doesn't. Trust me," Jeremy says bitterly as he sets down the carton.
"Why
not?" David asks as he leans back on his hands.
Jeremy's
eyes narrow. "Don't pretend like you don't know."
David
leans forward over the cartons on the floor between them. "Tell me,
Jeremy."
Jeremy
leans forward as well as he holds David's eyes. "He'll always love you
first."
David
reaches out and cups Jeremy's face. "But he'll always love you last. Do
you really think there'll be another after you?"
Jeremy
grabs David's wrists roughly and pushes him away. "I don't care."
David
gasps and Jeremy feels guilty for being so rough until he meets David's eyes.
There's heat there. Jeremy remembers everything Raine has ever told him about
David in a flash. David likes rough sex. So does Jeremy. Strange how they have
so much in common. Did Raine choose them because of the features in common, or
did they choose Raine because of what they thought he was? Jeremy isn't sure.
And it doesn't matter anymore, he tells himself.
"If
you didn't care, you wouldn't be so angry," David points out.
"I'm
not angry," Jeremy says firmly as he stands up.
David
jumps to his feet. "Leaving already?"
Jeremy
grabs his jacket off a chair. "I'm not in the mood to sit here and discuss
the past."
David
steps into Jeremy's personal space and rests his hands on Jeremy's hips.
"What about the present?"
Jeremy
licks his lips. He has to admit that he's curious. "What about the
present?"
"Aren't
you curious?"
"Yes,"
Jeremy murmurs as he drops the jacket and takes David's lips in a hungry kiss.
David's
hands slide around to dig into Jeremy's back. Jeremy grabs David's arms and
spins him around to slam him into the wall. All of his anger and resentment
come out and he tears at David's clothes. His fingers and mouth are everywhere
on David's skin, marking him. Jeremy's for the moment. Part of Jeremy hopes
that Raine will come to David only to see these marks. Jeremy's marks. Wouldn't
that be the ultimate way to hurt him? That's all Jeremy can think about as he
finally slides inside David. Mine now and never yours again, Raine.
Afterward,
as Jeremy presses his face against David's neck, he feels almost ashamed. David
isn't a piece of property. He's a human being.
"Why
did you call me that?" David asks quietly.
"Call
you what?" Jeremy asks in return as he kisses David's shoulder.
"Mine."
Jeremy
freezes. He said that aloud? "I..."
David
turns in his arms. "Whatever the reason, it's okay. I just want to
know."
Jeremy
bites his lip. "I don't want you to be his. I don't want anyone to be
his."
"So
you took me."
Jeremy
nods. "I'm sorry."
David
gives him a half-smile before kissing him. "I'm not. Not really. But
Raine..."
"Can
never know," Jeremy finishes the sentence for him. He hesitates. "I
should go."
"Stay,"
David says before leading Jeremy into the bedroom.
Jeremy
spends the rest of the day getting lost in David. So lost that he almost
forgets the man they love in common.
