Due to some kind of customer service snafu, I am now getting 81 cable channels or some such instead of the normal 24 for half-price. This means that for the first time in years, I have MTV and Vh1. When I was living with my parents, I wasn't allowed to watch those channels because they, to quote Mom and Dad, "do nothing more than shove popular culture down your throat, turning you into a mindless slave to their mainstream agenda." I used to try and argue that it was a harmless guilty pleasure, but they would not be swayed.
This morning I turned it on and watched hours of programming on Christina Aguilera, limpbizkit and J.Lo. To emphasize my patheticness, I should note that in the middle of watching the program about J.Lo, I got an urgent email calling me to a meeting with my boss and I was extremely reluctant to turn off the TV and leave. "But what is J.Lo's greatest TV moment of all time?!?" I cried out in frustration at the TV. "Tell me, damn you! Damn you to hell!"
Maybe Mom and Dad had a point.
